We are increasingly using virtual training, VR learning and eLearning. Curated content that includes animated video and more fun elements help to make these increasingly popular ways to learn. Internal social media and websites are also used to facilitate sharing of learning and ideas exchange.
First established in 2003, Gammon Academy has continuously evolved and is running over 100 training courses per year. It comprises six Business Colleges and four Centres of Excellence, each overseen by an experienced Dean of School. Courses and curriculum are reviewed every year to suit the changing needs of work. Apart from core professional competencies, strong emphasis is put on driving innovation and digitalisation. Training roadmaps cover topics in health, safety and environmental control, quality management, engineering capabilities development, BIM, commercial awareness, claims, strategy tendering, project planning and controlling, procurement and legal requirements, managerial skills development and leadership programmes.
To equip young graduates with professional skills to succeed as engineers, we offer a three-year graduate training scheme. Training is provided in a wide range of disciplines, including civil, building, building services, E&M, environmental, geotechnical, geology, quantity surveying and health and safety. The graduate training programme we offer is recognised by the following professional institutions: The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) The Hong Kong Institution of Surveyors (HKIS) The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) The Geological Society of London (GSL)
The following support is provided to help engineers with the qualification:
We welcome early encounters with undergraduates through our Fellowship Programme. This one-year development programme offers career-enhancement opportunities for undergraduates of tertiary institutions from Hong Kong, Singapore and Mainland China. By participating in this programme, students gain exposure and learn what is expected from them and the skills they need to acquire to prepare for their professional engineering career.
Our technician/craft apprentice programme provides comprehensive training in various disciplines including civil, building, building services, electrical and mechanical and quantity surveying. The programme includes:
Gammon partners with the Construction Industry Council and various subcontractors and industry organisations as part of its Collaborative Training Scheme (CTS) which aims to equip people to join the construction industry. Since 2012, we have been helping new workers enter CTS and advance to semi-skilled status in around 17 different trades.
We also support workers to register for the Advanced Construction Manpower Training Scheme or Approved Technical Talents Training Programme to improve their status to skilled level, which opens up considerably more opportunities for them in the industry.
Leadership programmes are offered to both young and senior leaders to equip them with necessary skills at the different stages of their career. Our Reverse Mentoring Programme bridges the generational gap and promotes a more inclusive environment for young and senior leaders to learn and connect. Our Project Management Programme grooms future leaders to further their careers in professional engineering disciplines and equip them with the necessary skills to enhance their competency.
