Gammon Named Winner for the Sector of Engineering Services in Hong Kong's 100 Leading Graduate Employers Award 2010
Gammon Construction Limited has been awarded as "The Hong Kong's 100 Leading Graduate Employers" as well as the "Winner for the Sector of Engineering Services" in the Hong Kong's 100 Leading Graduate Employers Awards 2010 by GTI Media as voted by around 9,000 Hong Kong and overseas students and graduates.
The rankings in the award were based on the Hong Kong Graduate Barometer 2010 which was conducted by GTI and powered by trendence, Europe's leading employer branding, personnel marketing and recruiting research institute. This was the first survey conducted in Hong Kong to identify the rankings of graduate employers based on students' votes through universities' career centres over a period of 5 months from April to September 2010.
In addition to determining the top 100 most sought after employers, the survey also explored key factors influencing the decision making process of final year students when selecting their first employer, as well as their career aspirations and motivations.
Mr Thomas Ho, Chief Executive of Gammon said, "The awards further reaffirm our aim to be an Employer of Choice and our determination to create a pool of talented and motivated staff under the increasingly fierce competition for talent in the industry. We believe that success begins with people, and we will continue with our people development program to attract the best talent, engage and develop them in order to meet with the ever-changing needs on the market."
Delivering on its promise to groom future engineers, Gammon has adopted all-rounded people development programmes. The Graduate Training Programme consists of a 3-year training and job-rotation where the trainees are guided by experienced engineering professionals along their development, helping them to gain on-the-job experience in various disciplines in construction; while the 1-year Fellowship Program offers undergraduates opportunities to gain initial experiences and take the first steps towards their professional future in construction.
Mr Rock Mak, a young engineer who joined Gammon in 2009 commented, "The training programmes are well-structured, diversified and inspirational. I have been given valuable opportunities to work on various challenging projects. All of these broaden my skill set, enhance my understanding on operating environment as well as deepen my knowledge and insights to chart my own development and career."
Gammon's people development strategy has long been recognised externally by receiving awards including Manpower Developer 1st 2010 by Employee Retraining Board, Silver Prize in Award for Excellence in Training and Development 2006 by Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA), and Excellence in Practice Award 2006 by American Society for Training & Development (ASTD).
Nearly 200 new graduates have joined Gammon in the past three years.
