Gammon kept within strict guidelines that would not weaken or alter the original facade's foundations. Sequencing and zoning plans split the building into phases, allowing the work to be completed on the congested site. More than 800 pieces of glass, reinforced with concrete panels and mouldings, were erected after the structure's completion so as not to delay dismantling the tower crane.
Due to the project's complex nature, it was extremely important to establish sound relationships and Gammon was proud of the mutual trust and understanding it was able to develop with the ASD, as well as with neighbouring buildings. Not surprisingly, in 1999, the project was awarded a Considerate Contractors Award by the Works Bureau.
The project's uniqueness also attracted many on-site visitors who wanted to take a closer look, including the then-Hong Kong's Chief Executive, The Hon Mr Tung Chee Hwa, representatives from various universities and several government departments, and the media.
