Huawei Technologies appointed Gammon as the general contractor on phase two of their R&D and manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen. This mixed-use development consisted of a nine-storey R&D building with external curtain wall built over a two-storey basement accommodating car parking and all back-of-house facilities. An additional three-storey factory employed the post-tensioned slab technique to achieve the heavy floor loading requirement stipulated by the client. A two-storey canteen was also part of the overall complex. The project was surrounded by well-designed transportation facilities and landscaping.
Our task included coordination of up to sixteen nominated subcontractors and several international consultants. We played an integral part in satisfying the client’s demands for a project that met the highest possible standards, while using a combination of international and local materials and equipment.
The project was completed in phases by adopting a fast-track construction programme over a period of 15 months. To achieve these challenging completion dates, we worked with the subcontractors on a shift basis throughout the best part of a year.
