The Peninsula Hotel is one of the world's most prestigious luxury hotels. Building a new 33-storey extension and renovating the existing hotel whilst, ensuring guests could continue to enjoy the 5-star service expected of the Peninsula presented us with an enormous challenge.
The hotel extension created an additional 121 rooms and 18 suites including a presidential suite, swimming pool, roof top restaurant and other world class facilities including 10 floors of top quality office space, and two helipads.
Apart from successfully dealing with the constraints imposed by a confined site and the proximity of the existing hotel operations, we also overcame a range of other challenges, such as working with three different Architectural practices at the same time, designing the world's largest double glazed windows and coordinating numerous specialist sub-contractors to obtain the highest quality of finish. At the peak of construction, there were over 60 sub-contractors and 800 of our operatives on site. Our excellent co-ordination work and project management on the project won us Hong Kong's 1996 Building Manager of the Year Gold Award.
