The Landmark sits in the heart of Hong Kong's Central Business District and is one of the SAR's smartest shopping locations. Built originally by us in the early 1980s, the complex was ready for facelift by 1995, for which owner, Hongkong Land, again turned to us.

The refurbishment included structural modification of the East Arcade entrance and demolition of an internal footbridge spanning the atrium restaurant. New stone wall cladding and floor tiles were installed externally and internally and the Atrium, the centrepiece of the complex, was given a new ceiling: a clever combination of new clear laminated glass skylights, butterfly shading features with a fluorocarbon miami white coating, and cantilever grille features that produce maximum natural lighting for the inner part of the atrium area. A striking reflective glass sculpture hanging from the ceiling completes the effect.

The refurbishment demanded a high degree of co-ordination between the landlord, tenants, consultants and contractors to avoid undue interruption to the ongoing business. We were employed under a part management, part main contract to lead this process, maintaining close working relationships with all the affected parties until completion of the project.
