Gammon constructed the HK$300-million Le Méridien Cyberport, which was part of the Cyberport development at Telegraph Bay, Pokfulam.
The project comprised a four-storey podium with some 5,664 square metres of gross construction floor area and a 9-storey, 10,107-square-metre guestroom tower on top. Operated by Le Meridien, the hotel opened in April 2004.
The project was high-profile and challenging and its major constraints were transportation logistics and noise control.
Unfortunately, public land access to the site was not available in February 2002, when we took possession, so all the construction materials were delivered by sea-freight through a proprietary transportation agent. Transportation services had to be ordered in advance making the pre-planning of site operations very important.
Being located near residential properties meant that it was critical to avoid any nuisance to the public. Very stringent criteria were set to monitor noise levels during normal working hours and beyond.
