The contract for the redevelopment of the former Hyatt Regency Hotel on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is worth in excess of HK$1 billion, was awarded to Gammon by Associated International Hotels Limited.

In place of the hotel is the iSQUARE superstructure, a multi-storey, 600,000-sq-ft retail and leisure development that connects directly to the MTR Tsim Sha Tsui station, fronting both Nathan Road and Peking Road and featuring a podium, a cinema and a tower block. iSQUARE was open in late 2009.

A workforce of some 1,200 was engaged on this project, including some 100 supervisory and management staff. They faced challenges that included the proximity of adjoining commercial buildings and an MTR station, which meaned that more time was needed to plan the construction sequence, logistics and traffic control required in this busy area in order to minimise disturbance to the local environment.

As ever, Gammon adopted environmentally friendly methods of construction whenever possible, including steel formwork for the columns and external walls, and a steel scaffold.
