Gammon-Hip Hing Wins Tamar Contract

Gammon-Hip Hing Joint Venture ("the Joint Venture") is delighted to have been awarded the design-and-build contract for the Tamar Development Project.

"We are proud to have the opportunity to play a key role in this iconic project. We are committed to contributing our skills and technical expertise to the creation of this dynamic urban development, which has been designed to meet fully the end-user requirements," said Thomas Ho, director of Gammon-Hip Hing Joint Venture.

'Openness, Enjoyment, Sustainability and Togetherness' are the four themes of the Joint Venture's design philosophy for the Tamar Development Project. The design provides a unifying architectural composition, while each of the principal buildings - Central Government Complex and the Legislative Council Complex - enjoys its own unique design and identity.

The manifestation of the four themes through the 'Open Door' and 'Green Carpet' concepts will create a wide breezeway and an extensive visual corridor. The design allows for a unique central open space, lush greenery, improved ventilation and daylight penetration that will enhance the cityscape.

"To realize the Joint Venture's vision we have sought world-class expertise with far-reaching experience. We are committed to working seamlessly to ensure the delivery of a development of the highest quality, while maintaining excellent standards of safety," said Thomas Ho. "We shall be creating a sustainable construction project through the adoption of state-of-the-art construction technology, and we are confident that the Tamar Development Project will set new benchmarks for the industry."

A workforce of over 3,000 will be engaged at the peak of the project's construction period. The Tamar Development is expected to be completed in 2011.
