Gammon celebrates the completion of MiC installation at Tonkin Street Project
Gammon Construction successfully completed the MiC (Modular Integrated Construction) installation at the Tonkin Street Redevelopment project on 18 January. This achievement, which involved installing all 726 units, was accomplished within 10 months. It represents a significant milestone in construction.
Kevin O'Brien, Chief Executive of Gammon, stated in his speech, “The Tonkin Street project has allowed us to proudly accomplish several notable industry firsts, including the first Concrete Composite Wall Project, the first Curtain Wall installed at a Factory MiC Project, and the first utilisation of Ultrasonic Scanning for Non-Destructive Testing. Additionally, we have developed the thinnest Concrete Composite Wall System used in any Hong Kong Construction Project.”
Through the implementation of MiC, environmental impact has been significantly reduced by cutting construction waste and noise by 65%, decreasing traffic loading by 60%, and subsequently reducing carbon emissions.

Gammon has also leveraged digitalisation by utilising a Common Data Environment (CDE) and a Robotic Dog for 3D scanning. These advancements streamline the processes and enhance the precision of their work.
Above all, Gammon prioritises safety. Gammon’s commitment to this principle is reflected in its measures that have remarkably reduced on-site labour by 70% and on-site lifting by 80%. These steps not only decrease potential risks.
