Gammon and VTC Jointly Organise Inaugural Graduation Ceremony for "Professional Diploma in Modular Integrated Construction" Programme
The graduation ceremony for the inaugural "Professional Diploma in Modular Integrated Construction" programme, jointly organised by Gammon Construction Limited (Gammon) and Engineering Discipline of VTC member institution Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE), concluded successfully on 15 December. A total of 19 students completed the programme and were awarded a professional diploma that is equivalent to Level 4 of the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework.
The graduation ceremony was officiated by Mr Kevin O'Brien, Chief Executive of Gammon, and Dr Michael Wang, Deputy Executive Director of VTC. "Since our very first MiC project at the CIC-ZCP in 2018, this cutting-edge technology has been utilised in over 70 projects, covering the construction of schools, residential buildings, and healthcare facilities. MiC is revolutionising the construction industry in Hong Kong, serving as the key to enhance building efficiency. It is our honour to collaborate with VTC in offering the 'Professional Diploma in Modular Integrated Construction' programme to empower industry professionals to stay at the forefront and seize emerging opportunities," Mr Kevin O'Brien said in his speech.
Dr Michael Wang, added, “The programme aligns with the government's vision of positioning Hong Kong as a global leader in MiC technology. I believe that the programme will equip students with comprehensive knowledge and the necessary skillset to manage MiC projects, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Looking ahead, we will continue to collaborate with Gammon closely in nurturing talent for Hong Kong's digital construction landscape."

Introduced in October 2022, the "Professional Diploma in Modular Integrated Construction" programme is a rigorous 120-hour curriculum that immerses students in intensive classroom sessions covering crucial subjects such as MiC techniques, BIM, and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA). The programme also provides valuable industry exposure through site visits, offering firsthand insights into MiC's stringent safety standards and installation requirements.
MiC is an innovative construction methodology that revolutionises traditional practices by adopting a concept of "factory assembly followed by on-site installation". By minimising on-site construction processes and addressing challenges such as weather conditions, labour resources, and site limitations, MiC enhances construction quality management, improves productivity, safety, and sustainability in the local construction industry.
