The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) Corporation contract to design and construct the Tai Yam Teng Tunnel, which forms part of the new MTR Penny's Bay Line, was awarded to Gammon in 2002.

The Penny's Bay Line that ran between Yam O and Penny's Bay on Lantau Island, servicing the Disneyland Theme Park opened in 2005/2006.

The contract involved the construction of a 120-metre-long cut-and-cover section and 710 metres of blasted rock tunnel. It also included the construction of portal structures at both ends and an Emergency Vehicle Access Road to service the proposed station at Yam O. The work was scheduled for completion in September 2004.

The project was challenging due to its tight schedule but we have taken measures to ensure that we met the completion date. The measures included the use of prefabricated concrete elements, which shortened construction time, as well as the implementation of an accelerated program using additional parallel workfronts.
