Gammon - Hip Hing Wins Cathay Pacific's New Cargo Terminal Contract
Gammon Construction Limited in partner with Hip Hing Construction Co Ltd has been awarded a contract by Cathay Pacific Services Ltd to build its new air cargo terminal in Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok.
The contract, valued at HK$4.2 billion, comprises the construction of an eight-storey warehouse in precast/insitu concrete; ramps to the warehouse and an office building. It also includes co-ordination of Material Handling System (MHS); building services and finishing.
The gross floor area is approximately at 280,000 square metres.
The new terminal is scheduled to be completed in 2013.

Other latest technologies including BIM (Building Information Modelling); Electronic Tagging of Offsite Components, and advanced document management and collaboration software will also be adopted to aid the project management.
A workforce of over 1,000 will be engaged at the peak of the project's construction period.
Gammon Construction has rich experience and expertise in airport-related projects. Its recent successes included SkyPier, North Satellite Concourse, DHL Express Cargo Terminal and HACTL SuperTerminal 1. The company was also involved in the new cargo terminal's foundation works in 2008. Hip Hing Construction has delivered similar large concrete compound projects in the past such as the ATL Logistics Centre at Kwai Chung Container Terminal Berth 3 with a total construction floor area of 850,000 square metres, and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Phase I, Phase II and its Extension.
