Gammon Wins Contract for Hong Kong Pavilion
Gammon Construction has been awarded by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region a contract to design and build the Hong Kong Pavilion at the World Exposition 2010, which will be held in Shanghai, China.
The Hong Kong Pavilion, located near the China Pavilion, will be a three-storey building with an external aluminium and glass façade.
In conjunction with its international design and exhibition teams, Gammon has developed the design concept of the Hong Kong Pavilion in line with the main themes provided by the World Expo organiser, namely "Better City, Better Life". The Hong Kong Pavilion's theme is "A City With Unlimited Potential".
The pavilion will be an iconic representation of Hong Kong's cityscape, with the three-dimensional characteristics of its façade highlighting the dynamic nature of Hong Kong.
Commenting on the award of the contract, Thomas Ho, Chief Executive of Gammon said, "We are particularly delighted that our technical competence and innovative design have enabled us to win this prestigious design and build contract. Site preparation works on the Pavilion will start by the end of the year. The Pavilion will be finished by early 2010 for commissioning and testing ahead of the Expo opening on 1 May 2010.
The scope of this project includes foundation works, sub-structure, steel frame superstructure, external façade, architectural finishing, fitting-out, exhibition, building services and all landscaping.
Gammon has been developing its project management and contracting businesses in China since 1980. It has completed more than 100 projects over the years. Most recently, the Company successfully managed the construction of The Village at Sanlitun retail development in Beijing.
