Gammon Awarded Taikoo Place Project

Gammon Engineering & Construction Company Limited (‘Gammon’), a subsidiary of Gammon Construction Limited, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded an approximately HK$4 billion superstructure contract by Taikoo Place Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Swire Properties, for the redevelopment of Somerset House in Taikoo Place.

The project involves redeveloping Somerset House into a 48-storey Grade A office building on top of a two-storey basement, covering a total gross floor area of approximately 94,000 square metres, as well as construction of the associated walkways.

Gammon Chief Executive Thomas Ho said, “We are delighted to have been selected by Swire Properties and to be involved with this landmark project in Taikoo Place. Gammon’s advanced technological standards and expertise in building construction are key factors in the contract award.”

Latest construction innovations such as Building Information Modelling and 3D scanning will be adopted to enhance the project’s environmental friendliness and construction efficiency.

Other initiatives include the use of self-climbing formwork for the core and a mini-table for the outer core slab on typical floors.

The project is targeted to achieve Platinum rating of Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) for Core & Shell.

Scheduled to commence in the second quarter this year, the project is expected to be completed in 2018.  A workforce of 1,400 will be engaged at the peak construction period.
