Gammon becomes the first construction company in Hong Kong to achieve WELL Precertification Gold for Head Office

Gammon Construction’s new head office has achieved WELL Precertification at the Gold level, making it the first construction company in Hong Kong to have been awarded this international designation.
Gammon moved to the new office at Quayside in December 2019. The new office follows the WELL Building Standard (version 1) for Interiors, a performance-based system for built environments that integrates health and wellbeing considerations in the design and fit-out.

The project team considered every aspect from air and water quality to light, comfort and mental wellbeing. Drinking water is filtered to a very high standard while indoor air quality monitors are set up to monitor real time. Meeting rooms and offices have been designed to minimise noise intrusion and allow undisturbed concentration. Green walls in the communal social hub provide a calming connection to nature and in the open plan office, the height of all desks can be automatically adjusted at the push of a button.

But the Gammon team didn’t want to only focus on human health and wellbeing. Of course the fit-out includes green features such as LED lighting, energy efficient lighting controls, and all-sustainable FSC certified wood furniture to reduce environmental impacts.

“The accomplishment recognises Gammon’s efforts and leadership in creating a workplace where employee health and wellbeing are key objectives,” said Emma Harvey, Group Sustainability Manager. “In addition to incorporating design features and operation practices, we will continue to monitor performance and occupant satisfaction and make sure the quality of the environment is maintained for all users.”

In addition, The Quayside, a commercial building at Kwun Tong constructed by Gammon, has achieved the Final Platinum rating of both BEAM Plus and LEED Certification.

About the WELL Building Standard®

Developed by the International WELL Building Institute, the WELL Building Standard is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact on human health and well-being, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mind.
