Gammon Recognised as Caring Company for Fifth Consecutive Years
Gammon Construction Limited ("Gammon") has been recognised as Caring Company for fifth consecutive year by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, in recognition of its contribution to the community. A "Five Consecutive Years Logo" was awarded to commemorate this important milestone at the Caring Company Recognition Ceremony at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre today.
Corporate social responsibility plays a significant part in Gammon's sustainability value. As a responsible company, Gammon has developed a number of partnerships with many non-government organisations (NGOs) and supported over 80 charitable events in 2010 including "Walkathon to Guangzhou" and "Hong Chi Climbathon Charity Stair Run" organised by the Hong Chi Association; the "CENTRAL Rat Race" and "Walk Up Jardine House" to raise fund for the MINDSET and "Sedan Chair Race", which raises money for local charities, as well as the annual "Coastal Cleanup" event.
In 2010 Gammon organised its first CSR Forum, which enabled company managers and NGO representatives to discuss how it can work together with its partners to exchange skills and provide programmes that benefit the community more effectively.
Internally, Gammon values its people and workforce and promotes the caring culture among staff by enhancing their working environment, comprehensive training and good career prospects. The caring culture is widespread and influential to members of Gammon staff. Some of them have demonstrated great enthusiasm on CSR initiatives at workplace. A good example is Senior Administration Officer Au Kam Chuen, who has been awarded as Caring Ambassador for his tremendous efforts in driving social services and in uniting the forces both from Gammon and the community to contribute to a better society.
The Caring Company Award Scheme was launched in 2002 with the aim to build a caring community by cultivating corporate citizenship and promoting strategic partnerships among the business, public and non-profit organisations. In order to be eligible for nomination businesses must fulfill criteria to demonstrate commitment to CSR in three key areas: Caring for the Community; Caring for Employees; and Caring for the Environment.
