Gammon Construction Tops Out Hysan Place in Hong Kong

Gammon Construction Limited ("Gammon") celebrated with Hysan Development Company Limited the topping out of Hysan Place in a ceremony today which marks the structural completion of this green building landmark at the heart of Causeway Bay.

Located at the 500 Hennessy Road, Hysan Place is the first property in Hong Kong to have achieved pre-certification of the highest Platinum level under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) scheme by the U.S. Green Building Council.

At the ceremony, Thomas Ho, Chief Executive of Gammon, said, "We are proud to partner with our client in achieving its environmental and sustainability objectives. This Platinum LEED pre-certified project is an example of our engineering and construction expertise as well as our commitment to supporting the green building development in Hong Kong."

In attaining the stringent LEED's Platinum standards, Gammon has implemented green measures in every aspect of the project. The company is committed to responsible sourcing and adopted its construction materials from sustainable sources within 800km distance of Hong Kong.

Gammon has also applied the Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology in the project which helps to facilitate the construction management processes and mitigate the project risks. Its exceptional use has enabled the company to win the 2010 Autodesk Building Information Modelling Award.

In managing the disposal of waste, Gammon has successfully diverted 90,600 tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) materials from public fill and landfill through its Waste Management System which has reduced 65,950kg CO2 emission as of December 2010.

Gammon has also been awarded the coveted Gold Sectoral Award in Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) by the HKSAR Government in 2010 recognising its environmental excellence demonstrated in the project.

Other construction impact mitigation initiatives include installing a ventilation system along the extremely busy pedestrian walkway; utilising mist spraying system to suppress dust and transporting construction materials during non-peak hours.

Upon completion Hysan Place will be a 40-storey mixed-use tower that provides full sea-view Grade-A office space and at least 15 floors of retail outlets in Causeway Bay, totalling 710,000 square feet.
